Road Tripping: The Most Fun Way To Social Distance
The Open Road Beckons In The Time Of COVID-19
There are a lot of scary statistics out there pertaining to COVID-19, but are they really representative of the truth, or are they beefed up to scare people? For what it’s worth, it seems as though those making such statistics are combining influenza, general annual fatalities, and assumption together to come up with the big figure. But that’s just an opinion.
Here’s the point: you don’t have to stay cloistered, and there are some very good reasons to take a road trip right now. Quit worrying about the quarantine. Presently, the roads are almost empty. Gas is cheaper than it’s been in a decade. Hotels are cheap. Air travel is cheap. Tourists are scant. You don’t have to make reservations to dine most places, or to explore businesses either large or small.
You might have to bend the knee and wear some ridiculous mask to gain restaurant entry at an established facility playing corporate tiddlywinks, but once you get to your table, magically, there’s no longer any coronavirus risk. It’s a miracle! So what’s the point? Go on a road trip! You’re not going to be in any danger even if you’ve got a car full of people.
Think about it. If you were going to get sick, you’re already exposed; and you’re not exposing anybody else from inside your vehicle. You don’t need to wear masks in the car, and you can laugh at those who haven’t thought this through enough to realize that. You won’t believe how many doofuses are out there wearing masks alone in a car. It’s funny, when it isn’t sad.
Wearing Masks While Driving Can Be Dangerous To Your Health
Some people have gotten into fatal car accidents because they wore their masks while driving; and that’s just totally unnecessary. So don’t “mask and drive”, doing so is just stupid. The masks deprive your brain of oxygen, if you’ve got glasses they cloud them up; you’re providing yourself unnecessary impediments to defensive driving.
Certainly, if you’ve got a health condition that predated this synthetic crisis, or you work in a hospital, you’re in a different place than most—that’s a given. But even so, right now you’ve got a golden opportunity to see America as never before, and all you have to do to seize that opportunity is be bold enough to get behind the wheel and explore.
Go Exploring!
So why not take a road trip? Of course, you may not agree. That’s totally your prerogative. If you want to stay at home, or only drive around the neighborhood, that’s your business. But when you’re on the interstate, you’re naturally socially distanced anyway; so why not have some fun?
